Overview

Our Covid-19 safety measures remain in place as outlined below.

If you need to see a clinician, you can use our online triage service below or call us on +44 114 222 2100.

If you suspect you have coronavirus and need further advice, please call 111 or seek advice via NHS 111 online.

Anima - Online Consultation Service

Anima is an online platform which seamlessly and confidentially integrates with your medical record, improving how you access care and appointments, and how our staff assess your condition.

From 11th September 2023 we are exclusively accepting minor illness queries via Anima for fully registered patients with an NHS number. If you are an international student you will receive your NHS number from NHS England and not from the University Health Service (UHS), so please do not contact UHS for this.

If your query falls into any of the below, and you are registered at UHS with an NHS number, you should submit an Anima request:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore or itchy throat or mouth (not dental)
  • Ear problem
  • Skin problem e.g. rash/abscess/infection/cyst/eczema (not acne)
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting/ sickness
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Sexual health concerns
  • Irregular periods

For anything not on this list, or if it is for a child under 5 years old, you will need to phone reception on +44 114 222 2100.

To log in/register with Anima and submit an online request, please use the link below

Sign up or log in with AnimaAnima should help us to direct you to the most appropriate care for your medical needs. This ensures we make use of our limited resources in the safest and most efficient way. All appointments will continue to be offered according to clinical urgency and need.

Cancellations

To cancel your appointment please either:
  • call us on 0114 2222100
  • text CANCEL to 07903593719. Don't put anything else in your message, otherwise your appointment won't be cancelled.

Attending a face-to-face appointment

Please wear a face covering if you’re asked to come into the surgery for a face-to-face appointment.

Measures are in place to keep you safe from infection during your visit to the surgery.

Prior to your appointment, please follow the instructions in the video below:

Video: UHS COVID-19 cold patient appointments

Please don’t come to the surgery if you have a cough, fever or shortness of breath. Instead, access healthcare via NHS 111 Online.

See our physical accessibility webpage for information about arrangements that are in place.

Pharmacy referrals

We're participating in a new approach to improve access to GP appointments. The aim is to direct you to the most appropriate healthcare professional, which may be a GP or a pharmacist.

If your symptoms could be resolved by a booked consultation with the pharmacist instead of the GP, you'll be given a same-day referral to a pharmacy of your choice. They're highly trained and skilled clinicians experienced in treating minor illnesses.

This will help us to free up GP appointments for people with more complex health needs and ensure that everyone gets treated at the right time, by the right healthcare professional.

We'll be listening to your comments and feedback about using this new service.

Evening and weekend appointments

Local GP practices have teamed up to improve the way we provide weekend and evening appointments for our patients.

From 1st October 2022, weekend and evening appointments will be available at Porterbrook Medical Centre for patients registered at UHS.

For more information on this service visit the page below:

Primary Care Enhanced Access

Remote and face-to-face appointments can be made with a variety of GP practice staff including Doctors, Advance Care Practitioners, Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, Physiotherapists and Pharmacists.

Initially, appointments can be booked by your GP Practice staff, but we will soon be adding the option for patients to book directly online and through NHS 111.

Home visits

Home visits are ONLY for housebound patients and for those too ill to attend the surgery. A GP will decide this, and we may offer you an alternative appointment if a home visit is not deemed necessary. A GP also decides how urgently home visits are needed.

In most cases it is best for you to be seen at the surgery as we have better facilities, diagnostic aids and lighting.

If you think you need a home visit you can request one by phoning reception on +44 114 222 2100. The receptionist will ask what your problem is, then we can arrange the most appropriate appointment for you.
