Pacific Coast Manor, Capitola, CA

Pacific Coast Manor sign

The San Lorenzo Valley Community Band, directed by San Lorenzo High School band director Jon Christian, played for an appreciative audience at the Pacific Coast Manor in Capitola, CA. A small but dedicated ensemble, the SLVCB consists entirely of volunteer musicians who rehearse weekly in the band room at SLHS in Felton, CA.

Description

Pacific Coast Manor audience (small)

Mostly Manor residents and staff comprised the audience. All seemed ready for a good time and enjoyable entertainment.

Jon Christian (small)

Jon Christian, for many years the band director at San Lorenzo High School, just announced his retirement. His present plans include the continuation of the SLVCB, however.

Cockatiels (small)

Not all of the audience was of the human persuasion. Behind us in the window were these two lovely cockatiels which joined the band at times, even providing some extremely well-timed sound effects.

The members of the San Lorenzo Valley Community Band paused to pose for a picture. Ages in the group range from high school student through, well, let's just say "retirement age." Yvonne is on euphonium and you can see her head above Jon's music stand. Norm, playing first trombone, is at the left end of the second row.

The band was also captured in the act of playing. Yvonne hides behind Jon (although you can see just a bit of her peeking around his side) while Norm is visible with his trombone.
