The Carmel Music Society of Carmel, CA, presents an annual series of concerts at the Sunset Center Theatre in Carmel. On March 2, 2000, the artists on stage were the Empire Brass, one of the foremost brass quintets in the world. The members of the Empire Brass are Empire Brass founder Rolf Smedvig and Marc Reese, trumpets; Gregory Miller, French horn; Mark Hetzler, trombone; and Kenneth Amis, tuba. The program stated, "No cameras or tape recorders allowed during performance," so we took it quite literally and, with one exception, avoided taking pictures while they were actually performing. We did, however, squeeze the button a few times between numbers and decided to share the best with you.

Description |
This outstanding group of musicians provided a wonderful evening of brass music, both serious and light. Not only does each individual member possess tremendous virtuosity on their instruments, but they played extremely well as an ensemble. |
